Community Engagement
At the heart of the PAPAGAIO Project is a simple but powerful principle:
“No research about me, without me.”
We believe the voices of women, families, and communities most affected by pre-eclampsia must shape every stage of our research. That’s why community engagement and involvement runs throughout the PAPAGAIO programme from study design to implementation and beyond.
Through active dialogue and partnership, we aim to:
- Amplify the voices of the intended beneficiaries of our research.
- Ensure local perspectives and priorities guide decisions.
- Build trust and foster collaboration between researchers and communities.
Led by Local Expertise
Our community engagement efforts are led by Prince Tommy Williams in Sierra Leone, an experienced facilitator and advocate for inclusive research practices, and draw on lessons from related initiatives such as the Lifeline Nehemiah Project (hyperlink to site).
Together, we are working to create meaningful partnerships that ensure the PAPAGAIO Project is not only scientifically robust but also locally relevant and ethically grounded.
