Dr Shivaprasad Goudar, MD, MHPE is a Professor of Physiology at J N Medical College, and Principal Investigator for JNMC Women’s and Children’s Health Research Unit, Belagavi, Karnataka, India. He heads the NICHD, USA Global Network for Women’s and Children’s Health Research Site at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Belagavi as the International Principal Investigator and is the Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Research in Maternal and Perinatal Health. He is the Chief Investigator, of ARPAN: Accelerating Research and Progress in maternal And Newborn health – Centre for Research Excellence, funded by National Health and Medical Research Council of the Government of Australia. He is also the PI for the Indian Council of Medical Research Collaborating Centre of Excellence as well as the Nodal Officer, for the ICMR Centre for Clinical Trials. He is involved in the design and implementation of research protocols aimed at improving the health outcomes of women and children residing in low resource settings. The areas of research include postpartum haemorrhage, preterm births, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, maternal and infant nutrition, pregnancy and postpartum anaemia, birth asphyxia, early childhood neurodevelopment and cervical cancer. He has authored more than 300 peer-reviewed publications, many in high impact factor journals, with an h-index of 44.
