Sierra Leone – CRIBS Dissemination Day, Capacity Building and introduction to PAPAGAIO, and a theory of change workshop
In November 2024, an introduction to the PAPAGAIO trials and a theory of change workshop was conducted in Sierra Leone. This was held in Princess Christian Maternity Hospital and led by Professor Adeniji, Professor Vwalika and Professor Shennan. Together, the team reviewed several key aspects of the trial protocol along with key co-investigators, collaborators, and varied stakeholders. Attendees included consultant obstetricians, junior doctors, midwives and nurses, with researchers present from Sierra Leone, Zambia and the UK.
The group discussed the importance of having broad inclusion criteria, and of planning pre-specified subgroup analyses to look at defined subgroups. The group agreed the inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria, and discussed the importance of recruiting from diverse areas.
It was a well-attended and productive meeting, with animated discussion and consensus reached on the co-developed protocol. Strategies were discussed for optimising follow up and minimising loss-to-follow-up, as well as future engagement and interaction, and training. The importance of having all stakeholders at future meetings was emphasised.
